What Is the Best Way to Transfer PS4 Data to PS5 After Setup?

Whether you want to transfer all of your PS4 data or just a few games and apps, the procedure is essentially the same. The PS5’s Settings menu includes a Data Transfer option that allows you to import files from any PS4 on your network.

You’ll need the following items before you start:

  1. A PS5 with a built-in internet connection.
  2. Each console has a TV or monitor connected to it (you can still perform a Data Transfer with only one display, but we recommend two to avoid having to swap out HDMI cables during the transfer process).
  3. Make absolutely sure both consoles are connected to the internet through a wired connection for quicker transfer speeds. If Wi-Fi is your only option, you can still use a LAN cable to connect the consoles to boost transfer speeds.

Before commencing any data transfers, be sure that both the PS4 and PS5 have the most recent system software.

How it’s done:

  • Choose Upload to Online Storage from the drop-down menu.
  • By hitting the Options button on your controller and tapping Select Several Applications, you can choose to select solitary or multiple files. Once you’ve made all of your choices, click Upload.
  • Even after transferring your save files to cloud storage, your PS5 may not instantly recognize them. You’ll need to manually download the save files to your PS5’s system storage to ensure you have access.
  • Navigate to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Save Data (PS4) > Cloud Storage after turning on your PS5.
  • Click Next after selecting any games or apps you want to transfer.
  • A transfer time estimate will be displayed on the PS5. To begin, click Start Transfer.
  • If the anticipated transfer time is too long, press Cancel to return to the previous menu and make changes to the files you’ve selected.
  • Allow time for the transfer to complete. Because the PS5 may require longer time to install game data, your PS4 may continue to display a transfer notification even after your PS5 restarts.

While the transfer is being processed, do not turn off your PS5 or PS4.

What Is the Swiftest Way to Transfer PS4 Data to PS5?

A cable connection will always provide faster transfer speeds than a broadband system, as a basic guideline.

If you want to transfer PS4 saved data, however, downloading your save files via Cloud Storage is far faster than utilizing the PS5’s Data Transfer.

Cloud Storage is really only available as part of a PlayStation Plus membership, therefore you’ll need to be a member to use it. Even if you used PS4 Cloud Storage, there’s no guarantee that all of your save data were uploaded. It’s possible that you’ll have to upload them first.

  1. Select Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage to guarantee your PS4 save files are sent to cloud storage.
  2. Select Upload to Online Storage.
  3. By hitting the Options button on your controller and tapping Select Several Applications, you can choose to select solitary or multiple files. Once you’ve made all of your choices, click Upload.
  4. Even after transferring your save files to cloud storage, your PS5 may not instantly recognize them. You’ll need to manually download the save files to your PS5’s system storage to ensure you have access.
  5. Navigate to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Save Data (PS4) > Cloud Storage after turning on your PS5.
  6. Select the save files you want to migrate to your PS5’s storage under Download to Console Storage and hit Download.
  7. Go to Settings > Storage > Saved Data in the Console Storage > PS4 Games to make sure the files were downloaded.

This will show you all of the PS4 save files that are currently on your PS5.

How to Use a USB Storage Device to Transfer Data

You can however transfer save files using a USB storage device if you don’t have Cloud Storage and don’t want to use the PS5’s Data Transfer feature.

To do so, install a hard drive or memory stick with extra memory into your PS4 and follow the steps below:

  • Choose Copy to USB Storage Device from Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage.
  • Click Copy after selecting the save files you want to relocate.
  • Unplug device and insert it into your PS5 once the files have finished copying. You’ll have to copy them to the PS5’s local storage manually.
  • Select USB Drive from Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4).
  • Choose Copy to Console Storage from the drop-down menu. You should be able to access your PS4 save files on PS5 once the data have been copied.
