Vertical lines are a fairly common issue with smartphones, and they have been seen on almost every brand available. When this problem occurs, you will typically see:

  • A screen that functions well, but a thin green vertical line runs all the way from the top to the bottom.
  • A flickering green line occasionally appearing.
  • A green line is accompanied by other colors, splotches, and black.

What Causes a Green Line on a Mobile Screen?

There are a several possible reasons for a green line showing on a mobile screen. If the green line is accompanied by lot of  other colors, and especially if you can see damage to the glass, the screen itself is probably cracked. If it’s just a single, thin green line that runs from top to bottom, some of the common causes include:

  • Loose display connector
  • Spoilt display connector
  • Water or fall damage to the display
  • Incompatible app
  • Incorrect configuration

Pressing the volume button for a couple of seconds will bring up a reboot menu. Click on the “Restart” option and let your phone complete the process.

Method 2. Cycling the battery

The second solution on our list is cycling your phone battery.

This solution may prove effective if there are white lines on the screen. A battery cycle is when you charge a mobile to 100% and let it drain to 0% again. Usually, the lines will disappear soon as you charge the battery fully.

Method 3. Use your phone in safe mode

It is time to try this masterstroke if the above methods doesn’t work. Using your phone in a safe mode will confirm if the lines are because of some faulty app or software.

Here’s how to enter safe mode:

  • Press and hold the Power button, simply as you do when switching off the phone
  • Click and hold for a second or two when the Power Off icon appears.
  • Click on ‘Reboot to Safe Mode’ when the option pops up. Select OKand let the device reboot.

Check if the lines are not appearing anymore, then a third-party app is the culprit. Now uninstall the latest downloaded applications until the issue is gone. OR you should try the Solution:4

Probably the lines are still showing. Then the problem is most likely due to some hardware failure- and the best option for you is to take your device to a reliable repair center.

Method 4. Factory reset your phone

It won’t be surprising if you call “Factory Reset” the head of all solutions. It fixes most of the problems caused by an app or software glitch. The process actually return your phone back to the factory setting by clearing all the apps and files you have downloaded on your phone purchase.

On some phones, ‘Factory Reset’ can be done through the Settings App. Follow the guidelines below:

  • Open Settings >> System >> Backup and Reset.
  • Click on the Factory reset option
  • Click on Reset Device.
  • Enter your lock screen PIN and Hit Next.
  • You will be asked to confirm that all data will be cleared by tapping on Delete All or Erase Everything option.

Note: Have it in mind that Factory Reset will erase all your mobile data, so do not forget to take the backup before you try this process.

None of these solutions worked?

If none of the guidelines listed above doesn’t help you to fix the green vertical lines on your mobile device screen, then it is a hardware problem. And the only solution to remove the green lines is to change the screen for a new one.

Although it is possible that the fault is simply a disconnection of the screen with the board. In any case, you must take the mobile to the technical service so that a professional can fix it.If it was still under warranty, you’re in luck because it won’t cost you anything to repair.
