Snapchat offers a few ways to delete messages, each with different effects. Here’s a breakdown:
1. Delete for Yourself:
• Tap and hold on the message you want to delete.
• Select “Delete”.
This option only deletes the message from your own chat history. The message will still be visible to the other person in the conversation.
2. Delete for Both:
• Tap and hold on the message you want to delete.
• Select “Delete for Both”.
This option will delete the message from both your chat history and the other person’s.
Note: Deleting messages within 2 seconds of sending: If you delete a message within 2 seconds of sending, Snapchat won’t send the message at all.
• Deleting messages after 2 seconds: Once a message is sent, it’s no longer guaranteed to be fully deleted, even if you choose “Delete for Both”. There is a small chance the other person might have already read the message.
• Screenshots and screen recording: Even if a message is deleted, the other person could have taken a screenshot or screen recording before the message disappeared.
• “Delete for Both” may not work: Sometimes, “Delete for Both” may fail, especially if the other person has already read the message.
Deleting Conversations:
• Tap and hold on the conversation you want to delete.
• Select “Delete Conversation”.
This will delete the entire conversation from your chat history, but will not delete any messages from the other person’s chat history.
Note: While Snapchat has features to delete messages, there are limitations. Always be aware of the potential for screenshots and screen recordings before sharing sensitive information.
