Corpers knock FG over unpaid N77k allowance

NYSC

  • The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government to investigate the non-payment of the increased monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. Despite the government’s approval in July 2024 to raise the allowance from N33,000 to N77,000, corps members have yet to receive the enhanced payment.

In February 2025, corps members received only N33,000, prompting concerns about the government’s commitment to the approved increment. This shortfall has led to financial hardships for many, as the existing allowance is insufficient to cover basic living expenses amidst rising inflation and living costs.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed, however, said that the new allowance was not implemented due to the non-release of funds.

NANS has urged the Federal Government to address this issue promptly, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the disbursement of allowances to corps members.
